Thompson Park Golf Course was incorporated on Feb. 8, 1926, as the Watertown Golf Club. The course at the Watertown Golf Club eventually grew, and in July 1966, a ceremony was held on the course when it became a course of 18 holes. The course grew to 18 holes after the owners in 1965 signed an agreement with the city to lease 66.3 acres in the park. The new nine holes were designed and built under the supervision of Jim Huber, the club’s president at the time. In January 2023, the City of Watertown purchased the Watertown Golf Club, and renamed it, Thompson Park Golf Course.
Thompson Park Golf Course is located in historic Thompson Park. Thompson Park was designed by John Charles Olmsted, the nephew and adopted son of Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park. It was donated to the city by industrialist John C. Thompson in 1916.
